Powering a Cleaner Future: Introducing BAAGH – Bangladesh’s Eco-Friendly Vehicle

During his stay at China, Mr. Kazi met with countless manufacturers in search of the one who would bring his vision to light. He came back having established partnerships with some of China’s biggest vehicle and battery manufacturers. Along with him, Mr. Kazi brought back high efficiency solar panels and lithium-ion batteries fully equipped with the latest battery technology. And thus began the testing, over the following months we tested the batteries and solar panels on numerous local easy bikes. The results were clear, Lithium-Ion batteries performed 30% better than their lead acid counterparts in terms of range. The weighed a third and charged at least 3 hours quicker than the best lead acid batteries. Moreover, these batteries contained no lead acid and caused no pollution. While testing the lithium-ion batteries, the need for battery charging stations and the subsequent issues concerning the monitoring of these stations became a concern for Mr. Kazi. So, we started working on designing our own charging and swapping stations. We conducted nationwide surveys and signed up numerous battery shops and gasoline stations who were willing to convert their stations to electric charging stations. At the same time, we realized the positive impact an entire nationwide fleet of smart BEV taxis would have on the environment. During the course of the testing and over the following months we kept updating our design; we wanted our vehicle to be the best in its class and were not willing to take any shortcuts.

2020
Revolutionizing Green Transportation in Bangladesh
In 2020, BAAGH Eco Motors Ltd, BAAGH Eco Taxi Ltd and BAAGH Lithium Batteries Ltd were officially incorporated with Mr. Kazi at their helm as President. Our goal is to produce our own line of battery electric vehicles, 2 wheeled, 3 wheeled, cars, buses and even trucks in Bangladesh as well as manufacture and recycle lithium-based batteries and create the country’s first fleet of smart, IoT and AI enabled green taxi fleet. Over the course of the next few months, the eco taxi went from an idea to reality as together with our partners, we created something truly special. The design was submitted for patent registration on 6th July, 2020. A fully electric tuktuk capable of sitting 6, equipped with an entertainment hub, a solar panel, 3 cameras, free wifi, a panic switch, free IP phone facilities and a charger for your mobile phone. The first ever BAAGH Eco Taxi reached Dhaka in the December of 2020, and thus began its journey.

2021

BAAGH Eco Motors Ltd’s Journey Towards BRTA Approval
On 19th January, 2021, BAAGH formally registered with BIDA and its plans to build its factory in Bangladesh. We began the process of getting our vehicle ready for approval by the BRTA and thus sent the vehicle to Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). There we passed their inspection on the first attempt and subsequently submitted the vehicle to BRTA. However, we were asked to come with the test results from Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET). And so, on 11th August, 2021, we submitted our vehicle to be tested on BUET. The vehicle was tested vigorously and on 23rd November, 2021, the final reports revealed some minor observations BUET wanted us to address. And we did, we addressed the points made by the test report, made swift amendments and resubmitted our vehicle for assessment. Finally, on 1st February, 2022. Our vehicle finally passed BUET’s assessment and is currently pending approval from the BRTA enroute to becoming the first electric three-wheeler to get registration from the BRTA.

BAAGH’s Unique EV Ecosystem

Connecting Vehicles, Batteries, and People through Next-Gen IoT Technology
While our vehicles and batteries are our pride, what makes our products unique is our ecosystem. The idea of an all-encompassing EV ecosystem occurred to Mr. Kazi when he was trying to find a solution to the Stolen Electricity problem. Without the lack of proper monitoring, it was going to be very difficult to put an end to that problem. BAAGH’S ecosystem consists of its vehicles, batteries, chargers, driver and riders, all connected though the power of next generation IoT technology. A rider can call a ride anytime, anywhere with the BAAGH Rider App. Drivers can easily check their daily income, the health of their battery, their vehicle status, view the security camera feed from their vehicle, find the nearest battery charging/swapping stations and get their daily/weekly/monthly statements. They also have access to 24/7 customer support through the app. Payment within the BAAGH Eco System is carried out with the use of BAAGH Smart Payment cards. These cards can be used to avail any and all BAAGH services and to make contactless payment when using our vehicles. The entertainment hub will play your favourite movies while you sit in our spacious cabin and enjoy our surround sound system. The emergency safety button allows you to send your ride information to law enforcement officials with the press of a button and they can instantly start monitoring your situation through our security cameras. The solar power panels add an extra 15% range to our vehicles, meaning you can expect to travel almost a 100 km with a single charge. If you still need to top up your vehicle, simply drive into one of our swapping stations, make necessary payments with your BAAGH Smart Card and swap out your old depleted batteries for a fully charged one.
We have also been working closely with the government to help shape the future of EVs in Bangladesh. On 17th February, 2020 the government began drawing out new policy for EV import and manufacturing. On 15th December, 2021, the high court passed a verdict to ban the import of all electric three-wheeler easy bikes to Bangladesh and to cease all existing vehicles, the decision is currently under review.
